Lutein Eye Vitamin
Eyes of young people require essential nutrients to maintain the health of
the eye sight. Preventative medicine recommends daily intake of Lutein and
Zeaxanthin which are strong anti-oxidants and are actually located inside
the eyes. Green leafy vegetables, eggs, and a few other foods contain Lutein
and Zeaxanthin. Many studies have shown that taking additional supplements
reduce the risk of chronic eye diseases including cataracts and age-related
macular degeneration which are the leading cause of visual impairment in
Imagine if older people would know and would start earlier in life to take
care of their precious vision.
Lutein has a yellow color and filters the high energy blue wavelengths of
light that are harmful to the eyes and therefore protects the cells inside
the eyes. Recently the concentration of Lutein and Zeaxanthin which are
interconvertible is measured as macular pigment optical density or MPOD.
MPOD is a useful marker for predicting eye disease and vision. When the lens
is damaged by light or is oxidized the crystalline lens becomes cloudy and
the clear vision will be obstructed.
There are over 600 carotenoids in the nature. High concentration in Carrots.
Out of the 600 or more only two of these strong antioxidants, Lutein and
Zeaxanthin are restored in the macula in high quantities.
